Under technical and moderate direction, works with broader limits and authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity, hazard grade, premium and coordination. Handles a territory size of minimum of 10 million. Works within an Authority Grant of a combined Level 3 and Level 4. Continues working towards completion of Insurance Certification Designation. Refers all outside of authority to Supervisor. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Answer incoming calls from agents responding to inquiries on coverage, billing questions, and making adjustments to policy information based upon prescribed authority on Commercial Property and Casualty lines of business. Conduct outbound calls and follow-up work to agents required to close out inquiry/transaction.
Gather, analyze and evaluate risk exposure through risk documentation (e.g. application, inspection reports, Dun & Bradstreet, MVR, loss history, eSelect systems such as SAGE, Scopes, IRMI, Best's, experience rating and other information pertaining to business initiatives, etc.) Work within specific authority level to quote, accept, decline, modify and renew risks within territorial assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines.
Apply knowledge and understanding of coverage forms, rating plans and guidelines in the selection and pricing of individual risks. Increase renewal premium by cross-selling additional coverage, products or service.
Ensure adequate pricing of individual risks through proper classification, accuracy of information and adherence to company underwriting standards and philosophy.
Work in unison with Agents, Regional Underwriters and AMS staff and other departments to grow and maintain a profitable book of business based on agency, territory, and team assignments.
Adopt proactive actions and/or make proactive recommendations to improve risk profitability.
Provide guidance to Agents and other departments regarding various underwriting information.
Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and appetite to agents. Reinforce the ease of doing business with Selective by meeting or exceeding agent expectations and service quality on a consistent basis.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Team Leader, peers and agents.
Communicate openly and in a timely fashion to team members on individual progress and share information. Participate actively in development of team goals and plans; ultimately support team decisions. Work diligently to achieve team goals.
Conduct continuous profit and growth analysis by territory and agency as assigned. Monitor premium retention with the use of electronic reporting tools.
Develop increased skills through continuous participation in insurance education.
Required - High School Diploma Preferred - College Degree Preferred - Business School Preferred - Masters Degree Must be in an underwriting position for at least 5-7 years.
Preferred - Associate in Underwriting Preferred - Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) Preferred - CPCU Preferred - CIC
