The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Senior Middle Market Underwriter. This position can be based in Cincinnati, Cleveland or our Columbus, Ohio office.
Position Overview: Success in the Commercial Lines Middle Market requires innovation, commitment, and responsiveness. That’s why, at the Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., we collaborate with our agents to develop fast, flexible, and custom-tailored solutions designed to meet the unique insurance needs for our Middle Market Commercial Clients.
The Commercial Lines Senior Middle Market Underwriter has direct responsibility for a book of key renewals, agency management and new business production from agency plant. Primary focus is to drive commercial lines middle market new business with agents. Build strong relationships with key commercial lines agents to identify and write new commercial lines middle market accounts.
Responsibilities: Soliciting, underwriting and producing middle market commercial new business Partnering with assigned key agents to implement strategies for growth - new and renewal retention Manage a portfolio of renewal business including - underwriting and pricing - focusing on retention Knowledge of the current business and economic conditions, industry trends, competition and territory specific issues Allocate or draw upon resources to generate higher levels of profitable production from the top performing agencies Establish and maintaining close working relationships with agency plant to produce middle market commercial line new business and drive flow Participate on a team consisting of underwriters and underwriting technicians to service assigned agents Ask for business, reinforce company appetite, and find opportunities Develop territory business plans aligned with regional business plans. Utilize reports to assist in planning Proactively resolves problems and anticipate issues that affect production and loss ratio objectives
Requirements Bachelors Degree Multi-line underwriting expertise Ability to develop strategic, productive agency relationships Self starter, ability to work independently Professional designation such as CPCU, CIC, etc., is a plus.
Computer Skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn internal Customer & Agency Account Management systems.
