SUMMARY: The 2VP Underwriting Center (2VP Center) position exists to ensure the proper execution of Select underwriting strategies on all non-AFI referrals and non-modeled business for all lines of business and agencies within the states assigned to the Center. The 2VP Center direct report base consists of two to four Underwriting Directors. Each Underwriting Director will have approximately 10 Account Executives as direct reports. The Underwriting Director teams are aligned by state(s) and work closely with respective Sales Directors and Sales Executives.
The 2VP Center works closely with Home Office Underwriting, Regional Underwriting Directors, 2VPs of Field Operations, Home Office Product Management and Regional Sales Directors to formulate/refine regional and state level product, underwriting and pricing strategies.
The 2VP Center has overall responsibility for talent development and performance management for all Underwriting Directors and Account Executives within the Center.
The 2VP Center works closely with aligned Regional Vice President(s) and Sales Directors in support of regional and state business plan achievement.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Collaborate with Home Office Underwriting, Product Development and Product Management to develop and implement regional and state line of business, segment or program strategies based on specific or unique regional or state needs or requirements.
Ensure consistent and timely execution of underwriting strategies through adherence to defined standards, processes and controls.
Ensure underwriting integrity/quality through timely completion and analysis of Underwriting Self Assessments.
Works closely with the Regional Underwriting Director to assure timely delivery of technical training based on identified needs and opportunities.
Works closely with the Regional Underwriting Director to implement and execute CAT Management strategies.
Works closely with the Operations Director to assure implementation and consistent execution of workflow and service processes and hierarchies.
Works closely with Business Center underwriting leadership to achieve retention and profit targets on renewal business.
Works closely with Home Office Sales to assure Account Executives possess required competencies to effectively attract business and negotiate at point of sale (telephonically) on larger premium accounts.
Works closely with Enterprise partners to identify business opportunities on behalf of the Enterprise.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Ten years Commercial Underwriting experience, preferably in small accounts; highly regarded for level of expertise across all lines of business.
Knowledge of Select product, operations, and agency distribution.
Previous managerial experience.
Ability to manage own work and direct the work of others. Ability to set clear direction by defining goals and priorities.
Exceptional organization, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
