The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriting Technician for our Inland Marine division in our Itasca, IL location.
Position Summary:
Support underwriting by collecting and analyzing data, preparing files, and providing technical administrative assistance. Must have underwriting knowledge and awareness of how the various roles/functions fit together and why each are important. May make account recommendations to Underwriter, including suggesting gathering more data (e.g. loss control) or making a DNR (do not renew) recommendation. Responds to agent service questions and assists with resolving problems. Resolves endorsements through referral consultation with Underwriters. May make account decisions and/or resolve endorsements within assigned underwriting authority. May travel with Underwriter within assigned territory to meet with key accounts.
Responsibilities :
The Underwriting technician is to perform the following key job duties with the goal to service customers, support the Underwriter and prepare new and renewal accounts.
Prepare new & renewal accounts for Underwriter review by collecting and analyzing data
Provide administrative assistance
Communicate with agents to answer questions and resolve problems
Analyzes data (loss history, loss control) and prepares recommendations for Underwriter. Prepares renewals and new business for underwriter review.
Supports Underwriters by performing a variety of data collection and file preparation work. Includes ordering loss control reports, running new business reports, outstanding submission reports, and similar items.
Takes agent calls, answers and resolves service related questions.
Handles book rolls, or other special project assignments.
May make renewal recommendations to Underwriter
May be granted Underwriting authority to execute renewals & endorsements.
In addition, this individual responds to inquiries and requests from existing customers. The Underwriting Technician must be customer service-focused.
Atleast 3-5 years of Commercial Lines Carrier or Agency experience preferred
Associates degree preferred.
Customer-service focused
Demonstrates superior problem solving skills, knows how to find missing information.
Excellent computer skills, including MS Office: MS Word and MS Excel
